Genesis GV90: The Flagship SUV, Revealed

Image: Genesis Motor North America — official press photo, cleared for editorial use.

Quick take

  • Genesis's first full-size flagship SUV, revealed August 19 in San Francisco — two versions: standard GV90 (7 seats, conventional doors) and GV90 Neolun (coach doors, 4-seat Executive Suite option).
  • 657 hp combined (322 hp front / 335 hp rear), 590 lb-ft, 123.5 kWh battery, ~310 mi estimated range on the 7-seat model — Genesis's own internal test figure, not EPA-certified.
  • The Neolun Arch Gate hidden-pillar coach door is a genuine engineering story, not just a styling flourish — a hidden roll cage and dual steel beams replace the conventional B-pillar.
  • Not yet known: US pricing, on-sale date, and any EPA-certified range or efficiency figures.

The coach door is the actual story

Genesis unveiled its first full-size flagship SUV on August 19 at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. The GV90 is the production version of the Neolun concept the brand showed in 2024, and it arrives in two forms: a standard seven-seat GV90 with conventional doors, and the GV90 Neolun, which trades the third row for a four-seat Executive Suite layout and a hidden-pillar coach door most other automakers haven't attempted.

The GV90 Neolun's doors are the detail every outlet is leading with, and it's earned: Genesis calls the Neolun Arch Gate the world's first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar coach door. With no visible B-pillar, the front and rear doors open toward each other, and Genesis says a newly developed dual-motion hinge lets the rear door slide slightly outward before rotating open — without interfering with the front door.

The obvious question is what happens to side-impact protection without a B-pillar. Genesis's answer, per the release: high-strength dual steel beams replace the conventional pillar, and a concealed roll cage — built from a cabin frame 1.5 times thicker than a standard vehicle, reinforced with steel tubes and structural foam — is engineered to match the crash performance of a car that has a real B-pillar. That's a real engineering claim from the manufacturer, not an independent crash-test result, and it's worth being precise about that distinction until third-party testing exists.

What's under it: 657 hp and a battery bigger than anything else Hyundai Motor Group builds

The GV90 runs on the eMP platform Genesis built specifically for its flagship, with a 123.5 kWh battery — the largest of any Hyundai Motor Group EV. Combined output is 657 hp and 590 lb-ft from a front motor (322 hp / 258 lb-ft) and a rear motor (335 hp / 332 lb-ft), with a Dual Electronic Limited-Slip Differential on both axles, a first for the group. On a 350-kW fast charger, Genesis quotes a 10–80% charge time of 22 minutes.

What a press release cannot tell you

This is the part worth being honest about, because everything above is Genesis describing its own car. The ~310-mile range figure is Genesis's own internal R&D estimate for the 7-seat model — not an EPA-certified number, which typically comes closer to a vehicle's on-sale date. US pricing and the on-sale date also were not part of this release. Outlets are floating figures in the low-$100,000s based on positioning against rivals; those are estimates, not Genesis numbers, and this piece isn't repeating them as fact.

Whether the hidden-pillar doors and roll cage genuinely match traditional B-pillar crash performance in independent testing. What the 123.5 kWh pack's real-world efficiency looks like once EPA figures exist. How the cabin's face-to-face lounge mode holds up outside a showroom demo. None of that is knowable yet, and any review claiming otherwise before the car reaches independent testing is describing a press kit and calling it a drive.

The cabin: a 24.6-inch display, a voice AI, and seats that spin around

The centerpiece is a pop-up OLED display that runs 23.6 inches in normal driving and extends to 24.6 inches when parked, alongside a 25-inch head-up display. The infotainment runs on Pleos Connect, Hyundai Motor Group's new Android Automotive-based platform, with a generative-AI voice agent Genesis calls Gleo. There's no separate start button — pulling the door handle powers the car on, and it's started by pressing the brake pedal. In the GV90 Neolun, the front seats rotate a full 180 degrees when the car is parked, turning the cabin into a face-to-face lounge. Also new for the group: a heated windshield that generates its own heat to clear frost, a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen system with Dolby Atmos, and a Roof Airbag Genesis says is a world first, designed to cover the roof glass in a rollover and help prevent occupant ejection.

Common questions

Is the GV90 for sale yet?

No. Genesis revealed it on August 19, 2026, but hasn't announced a US on-sale date or pricing.

What's different about the Neolun's doors?

No visible B-pillar — the front and rear doors open toward each other, using a hidden roll cage and dual steel beams in place of a conventional pillar, per Genesis.

Is the ~310-mile range official?

It's Genesis's own internal R&D estimate for the 7-seat model, not an EPA-certified figure.

How much will it cost?

Genesis hasn't said. Figures in the low-$100,000s circulating online are outlet speculation, not Genesis numbers.

Have you driven it?

No. It was just revealed, no independent test exists, and everything here is Genesis's published material.

Where this leaves it

On the specifics that are actually confirmed, this is worth paying attention to: the coach-door engineering is a real, described mechanism rather than a concept-car flourish, the power and battery figures come from Genesis's own release, and the safety story — 12 airbags, the roof airbag, the hidden roll cage — is detailed enough to evaluate once independent testing exists.

What isn't yet possible is a buying recommendation — there's no price, no on-sale date, and no certified range. That's why this is reveal coverage, not a scored review. We'll revisit it once Genesis fills in what's missing.
