Every Apple Product Announced This Week

"Surprise and Shine," Sept. 9, 2026 — Apple's first keynote under new CEO John Ternus. Here's every product, spec, price, and release date, in one place.

🍎

Quick take

  • Two new iPhones, one genuinely new form factor: iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max get Apple's first 2nm chip and a real variable-aperture camera; iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable, arriving five weeks later.
  • Apple Watch gets a health push, not a design overhaul: Series 12 and Ultra 4 share a new health-sensing system and a "Health Age" metric; Ceramic returns as a finish.
  • AirPods 5 bring ANC to the open-ear design for the first time — previously an AirPods Pro-only feature.
  • iOS 27 is already out (Sept. 14), with the rest of the software lineup — watchOS 27, macOS, visionOS 27, tvOS 27 — alongside it.
  • AppleCare One Family is a new $49.99/month plan covering every eligible device across a 6-person Family Sharing group, U.S. only.

Apple's September keynote is usually just the new iPhone. This one wasn't — "Surprise and Shine" was the first keynote presented by John Ternus since taking over as CEO on September 1, and it doubled as the launch of Apple's first foldable device. Here's everything that was actually announced, in order, with the real specs and prices attached to each.

iPhone 18 Pro & iPhone 18 Pro Max

Apple's first 2-nanometer chip, a real variable-aperture camera, and its biggest iPhone battery jump yet.

The headline spec is the A20 Pro, the first Apple silicon built on a 2nm process — a 6-core CPU with two new "super" cores, a 7-core GPU Apple says is roughly 40% faster than the A19 Pro, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. It's paired with a new N1 wireless chip (Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread) and a C2 modem with mmWave support in the U.S.

The camera system gets a genuine hardware change: the 48MP Fusion Main camera now has a true variable aperture with six laser-cut blades (ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, ƒ/4), plus new manual controls for aperture, shutter speed, white balance, and a live histogram. A redesigned vapor chamber — about 3x the surface area of the iPhone 17 Pro's — feeds into Apple's battery claims: up to 36 hours of video playback on the Pro, and up to 45 hours on the Pro Max, the longest battery life Apple has ever quoted for an iPhone.

Apple raised the base price by $100 over last year's iPhone 17 Pro, which started at $1,099. The Dynamic Island is also physically smaller this generation and can now display up to three simultaneous Live Activities.

iPhone Duo — Apple's first foldable iPhone

A book-style fold, Touch ID instead of Face ID, and a starting price of $1,999.

The iPhone Duo is a genuinely new product category for Apple, not a variant of an existing one. It opens like a book: a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display and a 7.6-inch foldable inner display, both ProMotion and Always-On at up to 3000 nits. The frame is Grade 5 titanium with Ceramic Shield front and back, and Apple rates it IP68 for dust and water resistance via a hinge built from more than 100 components.

The compromises that come with being this thin are real and disclosed upfront: the iPhone Duo uses Touch ID in the side button instead of Face ID, and its camera system skips a telephoto lens entirely — 48MP Fusion Main and 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide on the back, plus a 12MP under-display camera built into the inner screen for FaceTime.

Apple Watch Series 12

A new health-sensing system, a returning Ceramic finish, and a "Health Age" metric.

Series 12 runs on the new S11 chip alongside a genuinely upgraded Health Sensing System: heart rate is now sampled far more frequently, a new "Readiness" feature estimates recovery, and the Health app adds a "Health Age" metric alongside VO2 Max testing done through the iPhone's camera. Ceramic returns as a case finish (pearl white, night blue), alongside aluminum (space gray, black, light gold, dark bronze) and titanium (radiant gold, natural).

Series 12 starts at $399. Pre-orders opened Sept. 9, alongside the rest of the lineup; it ships Sept. 18.

Apple Watch Ultra 4

Same 49mm titanium case, the same S11 health upgrades as Series 12, longer battery life.

Ultra 4 keeps the familiar 49mm titanium case (black or natural) and picks up the same S11 chip and health-sensing upgrades as Series 12. The real change is battery life: Apple now quotes over two days (~50 hours) of typical use, and up to 45 hours in outdoor workout tracking mode. New band colors ship alongside it — a translucent "kelp" Ocean Band and a burgundy Alpine Loop.

Ultra 4 starts at $799, unchanged from the prior generation. Same pre-order and ship dates as Series 12: Sept. 9 pre-order, Sept. 18 on sale.

AirPods 5

Active Noise Cancellation comes to the open-ear design for the first time.

The real news here isn't a redesign — it's a feature that previously only existed on AirPods Pro arriving on the standard open-ear AirPods for the first time. Apple says the new multiport acoustic architecture and next-gen Adaptive EQ deliver roughly 50% more noise reduction than AirPods 4. The stem also gains a force-sensor swipe for on-the-fly volume control, plus Live Translation support.

The standard model is $129; the version with a Wireless Charging Case and on-stem volume control is $149. Same Sept. 9 pre-order / Sept. 18 ship schedule as the rest of the lineup.

iOS 27 — and the rest of the software lineup

Already out. A free update, released Sept. 14, 2026.

iOS 27 shipped five days after the keynote, on September 14. It leads with Apple Intelligence and Siri upgrades — personal context awareness, on-screen awareness, and a camera-based "Siri mode" — rolling out first in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish following in October. It's not available in the EU at launch, or to users under 13. Photos gets new tools (Spatial Reframing, Extend, an upgraded Clean Up), and Safari adds a "Notify Me" page-monitoring feature. watchOS 27, macOS, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27 all shipped alongside it.

AppleCare One Family

One subscription, up to six people, every eligible device.

A new tier of AppleCare One that covers every eligible Apple device across a Family Sharing group of up to six people under a single plan, for $49.99/month (about $600/year). It includes accidental-damage coverage plus up to six shared theft-and-loss claims per year across the whole family, and older devices — up to four years old, or one year for AirPods and Beats — can be added after a device check. It's U.S.-only for now, and started Sept. 14, 2026.

Common questions

Was there a standard iPhone 18 announced?

No. This event covered only the Pro tier (iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max) and the new iPhone Duo — no standard iPhone 18 was announced.

Why does the iPhone Duo ship five weeks after the other new products?

Apple hasn't given a specific technical reason. The rest of the lineup — iPhone 18 Pro, both new watches, AirPods 5 — all ship Sept. 18, while iPhone Duo pre-orders don't even open until Oct. 16, with sales starting Oct. 23.

Does the iPhone Duo have Face ID?

No. It uses Touch ID built into the side button instead, one of the tradeoffs of the foldable design.

Is AppleCare One Family available outside the U.S.?

Not at launch. It started Sept. 14, 2026 as a U.S.-only plan.

Do I need to buy new hardware to get iOS 27?

No — iOS 27 is a free software update, already available as of Sept. 14, 2026, for eligible existing iPhones.

Where this leaves it

This was a bigger September than usual — not because any single product is a dramatic redesign, but because there were genuinely more of them. The 2nm chip and variable-aperture camera are real, meaningful upgrades to the Pro iPhones; the iPhone Duo is the actual headline, Apple's first attempt at a form factor it has avoided for years, arriving with clearly disclosed tradeoffs (no Face ID, no telephoto) rather than a spec sheet that pretends those tradeoffs don't exist. The watches and AirPods are smaller, health- and audio-focused updates rather than redesigns. And two of the seven things announced — iOS 27 and AppleCare One Family — are already live, not still on the way.
