Quick take
- Sony revealed two Grand Theft Auto VI-themed DualSense wireless controllers at State of Play on September 3, 2026: a Black Limited Edition and a White Limited Edition.
- Both use a color-shifting, shimmering finish (blue-to-purple over the shell) plus a molded palm-tree texture and an etched "VI" logo on the touchpad — matching the game's Vice City setting.
- Price is $84.99 USD (¥12,480 tax-in / €84.99 / £74.99) per controller. Pre-orders open September 10 at 10am local time; both ship November 19, the same day as Grand Theft Auto VI itself.
- The White edition sells globally through direct.playstation.com and participating retailers. The Black edition is exclusive to direct.playstation.com in supported regions, with select retail elsewhere — read: it's the harder one to get.
Two controllers, one city, two times of day
Sony used its September 3 State of Play to show off the first official Grand Theft Auto VI hardware tie-in: a pair of limited-edition DualSense wireless controllers, one modeled on Vice City by day and one on Vice City by night. Sony's own framing, straight from the PlayStation Blog announcement, is that the White Limited Edition "embodies Vice City at daybreak, from its white sands and pastel skies to all its laid-back glamour," while the Black Limited Edition "captures the energy of Vice City's iconic nightlife."
Both controllers share the same core design language: a shimmering, color-shifting finish that runs from blue into purple across the lower half of the shell, a palm-leaf texture physically molded into the grips (not a sticker, not a print — an actual textured surface), and an embossed "VI" logo etched into the touchpad in the game's signature palm-tree wordmark. Official Grand Theft Auto VI branding appears on the back of each shell as well.

Look closely at the grips in the photos above and the molded palm texture is genuinely visible in the surface shading, not just implied by the marketing copy — this is a real tactile detail, not a paint job pretending to be one.

What's actually new versus a standard DualSense: nothing, mechanically
It's worth being precise about what this product is. Sony's post ties the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers directly to Grand Theft Auto VI — "instantly respond to the action and provide dynamic resistance, bringing the sights, sounds and sensations of Jason and Lucia's story to life in your hands" — but that's describing the standard DualSense feature set as it will be used by the game, not a hardware change unique to these controllers. There's no indication of a different trigger mechanism, added buttons, or GTA-specific firmware. This is a cosmetic limited edition built on the existing DualSense platform: real, and nicely done, but the haptics and triggers will behave the same as they do on any current DualSense running the game.

Price, pre-orders, and the one that's actually hard to get
Both controllers launch November 19, 2026 — the same day as Grand Theft Auto VI itself — at a recommended retail price of $84.99 USD (¥12,480 including tax, €84.99, £74.99). Pre-orders open September 10 at 10:00am local time, which works out to 7:00am PT / 10:00am ET in the US. Orders placed directly through direct.playstation.com get free launch-day delivery on eligible pre-orders.
Availability is not identical between the two editions, and this is the part worth reading carefully before you set an alarm for September 10. The White edition will be sold globally, both through direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers. The Black edition is exclusive to direct.playstation.com in the regions where that storefront operates — the US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, and Austria — with select retailers picking it up elsewhere. In Portugal specifically, Sony says pre-orders route through playstation.com/store/hardware instead. Sony's own language flags that "the exact launch date and availability for controllers may vary by country/region," so treat the Black edition in particular as the harder one to actually secure.

What a press photo can't show you: actual gameplay
Every image on this page is of the controller itself — real, official, and downloadable straight from PlayStation's own press kit. None of them are Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay screenshots, and that's a deliberate choice, not an oversight. Rockstar's own published policy on its material centers on non-commercial use, and this is a monetized site — so rather than pull screenshots from a third party and guess at whether that clears the bar, we're linking you straight to Rockstar's official sources instead:
- Rockstar's official Grand Theft Auto VI screenshot library — over 150 official images across the base game, Ultimate Edition, and a Vintage Vice City set, downloadable directly from Rockstar.
- Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look — Rockstar's roughly 26-minute extended gameplay trailer, captured entirely from in-game PS5 footage.
If you want to see Jason and Lucia in motion before November 19, those two links are the real thing, straight from the source — not a re-upload, not a compressed re-encode, and not something we're claiming credit for hosting.
Common questions
Are these controllers for sale right now?
No. They were revealed September 3, 2026. Pre-orders open September 10, and units ship November 19.
Which one is harder to get?
The Black edition — it's exclusive to direct.playstation.com in supported regions (plus select retailers elsewhere), while the White edition sells more broadly through direct.playstation.com and participating retail.
Do these controllers do anything a standard DualSense doesn't?
No. Sony's language ties the haptics and adaptive triggers to how Grand Theft Auto VI itself uses them — that's standard DualSense functionality, not a hardware change unique to this edition.
Can I see actual gameplay footage on this page?
No, by choice. We link out to Rockstar's own official screenshot library and extended-look trailer instead of hosting gameplay images ourselves, since Rockstar's own usage policy is written around non-commercial use and this is a monetized site.
Has anyone here actually held one?
No. This is reveal coverage based on Sony's official announcement and press photography — not a hands-on impression.
The design work here is real and specific — a physically molded palm-leaf texture and a genuine color-shift finish are more effort than most licensed peripherals bother with, and Sony's own photography backs that up in enough detail to judge it honestly. What's worth remembering is that this is cosmetic: the DualSense underneath is the same DualSense you can already buy.
If you want one, the actual decision point isn't the design — it's regional availability. Mark September 10 if you're after the Black edition specifically, since that's the one with the tighter net.

All eleven controller photographs on this page are Sony Interactive Entertainment's own official press images, explicitly marked downloadable on the PlayStation Blog post, used here for editorial reporting. No Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay screenshots appear on this page — those are linked out to Rockstar's own official pages instead, given the non-commercial framing of Rockstar's published usage policy on a monetized site.
